The ancestors of the Ferdinand winery were nobles during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the empire fell, they chose to move to the farm in the Brda Mountains, and at the same time change the family name to ‘Certic’. Living a life of paradise and the world, the ancestral teaching of the family has also become ‘love achieves all!’ Ferdinand winery is located in the highest area of the production area, with beautiful scenery and a bird’s-eye view of the entire Brda region. The Ferdinand vineyard is located in the best central area of the old vineyard in the Brda region, which shows the strength and glory of the former empires.
Ferdinand Winery
Ferdinand winery is a ‘mixed blood’ of Slovenia and Italy, which is located in a beautiful village near Kojsko, a 30-hectare cross-border vineyard with an altitude of 150 to 300 meters. The grapes here can fully enjoy the warm and humid sea breezes of the Mediterranean all year round. On the steep sunny slopes, plus 100% of the Oka soil conditions, it provides good drainage to the grapes, even if the grapes are hot and rainy in summer, the grapes are not affected. In the evening, the Alps in the north blew dry and cold mountain winds. Therefore, the large temperature difference between the days and the accumulation of sugar seem to be tailor-made for him.
The wine it brews is completely PK with the famous Bordeaux village. The style is a special terroir of Slovenia, the unique taste of Italy and the delicate and elegant performance of the famous Bordeaux villages are beautifully performed, and it has been sought after by celebrities.
Ferdinand Winery is located in the most important Balda production area in the country, which has always had a deep relationship with the adjacent Italian Collio producing area. Most of the vineyards are also influenced by the climate of the Adriatic Sea and the Alps. The white wine is fragrant and the red wine style is strong.
The winery was founded by two winemakers who graduated from Bordeaux wine academy, one is Robert Princic from Italy and the other is Matjaz Cetrtic from Slovenia.
They combine Bordeaux’s winemaking technology with Slovenia’s terroir to create unique wines.
Natural planting and brewing
From the planting of grapes to the brewing of wine, the winery of Ferdinands follows the will of nature. All processes follow the natural operation, without excessive artificial intervention, in order to maintain the natural properties of the wine, even when preventing diseases and harms. It is only with natural seaweed that due to the limitation of terrain and terroir conditions, the wine farmers do not use mechanical work, and most of the work is done by hand, which provides better monitoring and quality control for the development of grape planting.
When the owner of the winery Matjaz was still in the academy, he began to take over the family’s largest vineyard area. ‘Rebula’ has been introduced to the international market.
Rebula is a thick-skinned white grape variety in Slovenia, the most famous and the most expensive variety in the BRDA region. As a carrier of odor and taste, it is reminiscent of the soil environment of the rock formation it grows (Operoka in Slovenia: layered sandstone and mudstone).
The wine made from the Rebula variety is light, overflowing with flowers, elegant and sour, and the personality will not be too strong.

When Matjaž Četrttič was born, Slovenia was in the pre-South Laf era, a unique brand of the times. The family history of the noble family is as weak as possible. Organic Production organic cultivation
Affected by the climate of the Alps and Mediterranean, the vines can dry quickly after the rain, and diseases and insects are not easy to occur. In addition, the extremely low yield per hectare allows us to work organically.
We only use natural seaweed products to prevent pests and diseases.
The roots of the vines of aged wine for 30-40 years are like roots, buried deep in the soil, and even in extremely poor years, grapes can still grow tenaciously.
